  • Samlor Koko, an aromatic vegetable soup made with spices and fermented fish paste, is central to Cambodian cuisine. Not commonly found in restaurants, it is usually enjoyed at home. However I had the good fortune to try it at Park Hyatt Siem Reap, thanks to one of its chefs.


  • Shrouded in the jungle, Beng Mealea has remained unrestored, exuding a mystical aura. The temple ruins are a poignant reminder of the passing of time, with nature gradually taking over this impressive site.


  • One of the oldest Angkor temples, Phnom Bok is tucked away on a remote hill some 20 km away from Siem Reap’s city centre. Largely unrestored and rarely visited by tourists, the ruins exude a serene, otherworldly atmosphere.


  • In Siem Reap Once More

    Revisiting Angkor Archeological Park after 18 years left me with a deeper appreciation of these ancient sites and their history, as well as the ephemeral nature of what we have.


  • Brothers by Yu Hua and Human Acts by Han Kang provide sobering insights into the history of China and South Korea respectively. These poignant works depict the deep, emotional impact of major events on the lives of their people.
