Today’s Chinese New Year eve and we had a satisfying hotpot/steamboat/火锅 dinner. Perfect for a cold winter night (it’s about 0°C here in Brussels)!
Back home in Singapore, I’d have steamboat for reunion dinner/lunch with my family on every Chinese New Year eve, except for the few times when we’d go to our relatives’ homes for an extended family gathering.
This is the second time that I’ve not being able to spend Chinese New Year with my family, the first being in 2011 when I had just moved in Paris. Having steamboat tonight makes me feel a little closer to them, even though they are in Singapore. It also makes me happy to share with AB a little bit of my Chinese culture!
I was also quite happy to receive a photo of my family’s steamboat lunch when I woke up. My mum sent me the photo via WhatsApp – which is probably one of the best app I’ve ever used as it allows me to readily keep in touch with my family, boyfriend and friends wherever I’m at!
Happy Chinese New Year!
